Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about making a free printable birthday card with Foldy Cards — from paper and folding to what happens with your photos.
Getting started
- What is Foldy Cards?
- A free online maker for printable, foldable birthday cards. Pick a ready-made design from the ideas pages or upload your own image, add a message, and download a PDF that folds into a card.
- Do I need an account or an app?
- No. There's no sign-up and nothing to install — the maker runs in your web browser on a phone or computer.
- Is it really free?
- Yes. Designing and downloading the card PDF is free; the only cost is your own paper and ink.
- Can I start from a ready-made design?
- Yes — the birthday card ideas section has themed pages full of samples, and each one opens in the maker with artwork, a message, and print orientation already filled in.
Printing and folding
- What paper do I need?
- Standard 8.5 x 11 in letter paper. Regular printer paper works, and slightly heavier paper makes a sturdier card. If your printer uses A4, print the PDF with 'fit to page' scaling.
- How does the card fold?
- The PDF is a single page that folds in half, then in half again — a quarter-fold card about 4.25 x 5.5 in, with every panel right-side up. No scissors or glue needed.
- Can I make portrait or landscape cards?
- Both. There's a print-layout toggle in the maker, and the PDF layout adjusts automatically.
- How long does it take?
- About two minutes: choose artwork, type a message, download the PDF, print, and fold.
- Why is there a small foldycards.com line on the printed card?
- Every free PDF includes a small 'Made with ♥ at foldycards.com' credit printed on the sheet. It's the only branding on the card.
Photos, privacy, and sharing
- What happens to photos I upload?
- They stay in your browser. The card preview and the PDF are generated on your device, and uploaded photos are never sent to our servers or stored in an account.
- Can I use an image from the web?
- Yes — alongside uploading, you can paste a direct image link and the maker will fetch it. Make sure you have the right to print the image you use.
- Can I share a card design with someone?
- Yes — the maker can create a share link for cards built from samples or image URLs. Cards made from uploaded files can't be shared by link, because uploaded photos stay private on your device.
